Bringing a History Podcast Up to Date

Bringing a History Podcast Up to Date

The Road to Now is a podcast hosted by comedian and history instructor, Dr. Ben Sawyer, and history buff and bassist for The Avett Brothers, Bob Crawford. With each episode, they hone in on a topic relevant to current events and delve into the history of that topic, while unpacking a little more of America's past and the events that led us to today. They interview celebrities, experts, politicians, and academics like Ken Burns, Joe Kwon, and John Hickenlooper. We wanted to bring over their incredible catalog of episodes onto a slick, user-friendly new WordPress website that would showcase their sponsors, encourage subscribership, and be easy for them to manage and update routinely.

Housing Years of Episodes in One Place

With this website, the goal was to reel in visitors from the first second they arrived to the home page. The podcast itself provides a lot of content capable of doing that, but the most powerful aspect of the show is the shared passion the creators have for American history. We took a video of Bob Crawford sitting in on one of Dr. Sawyer's history lectures at Middle Tennessee State University and edited it to serve as an engaging header that showcases the hosts' charisma and connection. We further personalized the page with a welcoming message written by the hosts, punctuated by images of their signatures. To ensure content was immediately accessible to visitors, we included the latest episodes, featured guests, a newsletter sign-up, and a way to subscribe to the podcast— all right there on the home page.

"I had seen pages designed by Seven Ages Design before we met with them, so I already knew they did excellent work. What I never imagined though, was how incredibly simple redesigning a website could be when you’re working with professionals like Charles and Destiny. They transferred 4 years worth of pages/posts on a self-designed website to a beautiful new site they built in no time with zero loss of our pages. If you know you need a new website but feel overwhelmed about a redesign like I did, you need to call Seven Ages and see what they can do!"
